I uploaded a photo to flickr. Bells Beach famous among the surfing fraternity. I found uploading to Flickr very easy so I can see why it is popular. I also used blog this option which was really easy as well
Exploring Flickr
May 8, 2009![]()
A couple of the papers I went to at Online this year talked about increasing access to Library photo collections by uploading them to Flickr. The Library of Congress for example put up a series of depression photos which have now been viewed 10 million times. Those are serious statistics and would certainly justify efforts in uploading photos. Of personal interest to me was this photo of a tattoo “So it goes” which apart from being a beautiful photo recalls the famous quote from Kurt Vonnegut’s anti war novel Slaughterhouse FiveĀ . In Slaughterhouse 5 there is an alien race called tralfamadorians who exist in the past, present and future simultaneously and as they believe when someone dies they continue to live in other time and places their response to death is “So it goes” .
Kurt Vonnegut who died in 2008 was one of the good guys and a fan of Librarians as this quote from his memoir “A man with no Country”
“While on the subject of burning books, I want to congratulate librarians, not famous for their physical strength, who, all over this country, have staunchly resisted anti-democratic bullies who have tried to remove certain books from their shelves, and destroyed records rather than have to reveal to thought police the names of persons who have checked out those titles. So the America I loved still exists, if not in the White House, the Supreme Court, the Senate, the House of Representatives, or the media. The America I loved still exists at the front desks of our public libraries.”
